About Me

Hi World!

I'M Terry Luc

I have been an artist all of my life. I live in Northbrook, IL, a town just north of Chicago. I am a father of six amazing and very creative kids - now all adults. My wife, Karie, is an award winning photojournalist.

In addition to being an artist, I am bass player in the rocking band Counterpoint, a cycling instructor, and a former football coach. Casablanca is my favorite movie, The Rolling Stones are my favorite band, High West Double Rye and Casamigos are my preferred beverages, and The Master and Margarita is my favorite book.

For me, art is rhythm, color, and beauty. It is never timid. It should grab you. Complimentary colors should vibrate. You should be drawn in by graceful lines and "s" curves. It should feel like almost a musical experience.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you like what you see. And always remember to "Put a Little Art in Your Life, You'll Feel Better!"

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

Inspiration

The artists who have influenced me the most include my teacher and mentor Ed Paschke, the illustrator Gil Stone, and the classic illustrators Frank Frazetta, Gil Elvgren, John W. Waterhouse, and N.C. Wyeth. However, most recently, my renewed interest in the art of Pablo Picasso has inspired me to explore what I call Modern Cubism. Today I bounce back and forth between pop and cubism.

Techniques

I want my work to have a sense of rhythm, actual musical rhythm. One of the best compliments have received recently was when a show curator said my work reminded him of jazz. That is about the best compliment that I have ever gotten.

I work primarily in acrylics. I use a small number of colors - but basically all of the boldest ones I can find. Hot, cold, and bold.

career highlights

I just love doing the work. The entire creative process - art, music, and design. I have also had the pleasure of working with many wonderful students over the years, hopefully inspiring them as my mentors inspired me.

I show exhibited in many groups shows. One-Man exhibitions include a 2010 show at the Gil Shin Gallery in Northbrook, IL and at the Diego Rosa Gallery in Querertaro, Mexico in 2018.
