This painting I created specifically for a one-man show in Queretaro, Mexico. Inspired by the Mexican actress Maria Felix, it is one more of my pieces that betrays my obsession with actresses and femme-fatales of bygone years. Some subtle symbolism here that I will let you ponder, but it does in some ways straddle El Dia de los Muertos and Christmas.
From a technical standpoint, you may notice quite an extensive use of black in this painting. As a rule, I don't paint with black; I rarely even buy it. But here I went all in with black and played it against the roses and reds of her skin and the poinsettia.
